What is CBDV?

CBDV (C₁₉H₂₆Oβ‚‚) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid in Cannabis sativa. CBDV is a propyl analogue of CBD. Present at low concentrations in most cannabis; higher in indica varieties and Northwest Indian landrace strains.

Pharmacology

Acts on TRPV1, TRPA1 and TRPV4 channels. Anticonvulsant in animal models through mechanisms partly distinct from CBD. Non-psychoactive. Does not significantly bind CB1.

Current Evidence

GW Pharmaceuticals investigated CBDV as GWP42006 for autism spectrum disorder and Rett syndrome. Phase 2 results were mixed. No marketing authorisation achieved for CBDV as of 2026.

GMP Relevance

May be present as minor constituent in full-spectrum preparations. Include in comprehensive cannabinoid profiling. GW's investigation demonstrates the pathway from minor cannabinoid to IND β€” relevant to the broader industry.

Regulatory Status

CBDV is not independently scheduled as a controlled substance in most European jurisdictions as a component of cannabis starting material. Pharmaceutical preparations require EU GMP manufacturing standards. Specifications should include identity, purity and assay by validated HPLC.

See the Cannabis Glossary for definitions of related cultivation, extraction and quality terms.
